AIM AND OBJECTIVES

AIM

The aim is to raise a group of mathematicians who can think logically and approach real life problems in analytical and creative ways, use development of mathematics as a tool for innovations in science and technology and also to provide its students with a broad – based knowledge of Pure and Applied Mathematics with some emphasis on the following areas Mathematical modelling:

Biomathematics

Optimal Control

Optimization

Operations research

Computational Mathematics with software like MAT Lab, R, Octave, Maple and Sage,

Applications in Statistics, Algebra, Stochastic Processes, Probability and Measure Theory

Scientific Computing

Fluid Mechanics

Mathematical Physics

Differential Equations (Partial and Ordinary)

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the programme are to equip the graduates

♦ With an understanding of the fundamental principles of Pure and Applied Mathematics.

♦ With using interdisciplinary orientations and approach to solving life challenging   problems.

♦ To raise a group of mathematicians who can think logically and approach real life problems in analytical and creative ways.

♦ To raise a group of mathematicians who can also use development of mathematics as a tool for innovations in science and technology.

  ♦ To a raise a group of Mathematicians that can  apply their problem  solving and

  ♦ Data analysis skills to a wide range of fields, including:

  Banking and finance(maximizing profit and minimizing loss/risk)             

  Epidemiology(modelling of infectious diseases and their dynamics)

  Information Security (coding, cryptography)

  Environmental modelling (resources biodiversity, weather and climate)

  Medical research(treatment and drug efficacy and resistance)

  Bioinformatics (modelling in Genes, phylogenetic and Genomics)

  Marketing (market segmentation and clustering)

  Telecommunications (Operations Research: Linear Programming and Network Theory)

  Engineering (fluid mechanics, optimizing industrial processes)

  Research and Development etc.
